ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಆಸ್ಟಿನ್ ಕನ್ನಡ ಸಂಗದ ವತಿಯಿಂದ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಲಾಭರಹಿತ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣ ಸಂಸ್ಥೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ೨೦೧೮ ನೇ ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿ ಆರಂಭವಾಯಿತು. ಕಳೆದ ೨ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ COVID ನ ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಷ್ಟಗಳನ್ನ ಎದುರಿಸಿ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ ಯಶಸ್ವಿಯಾಗಿ ಬೆಳೆದು ಬಂದಿದೆ. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಈಗ ೯೦ ಮುಟ್ಟಿದೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ದ್ಯೇಯೋದ್ದೇಶವೆಂದರೆ - ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆಯನ್ನು ಓದಲು, ಬರೆಯಲು, ಮಾತನಾಡಲು ಹಾಗು ಸರಳ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅರ್ಥ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುವುದು. ಈ ಕೈಂಕರ್ಯಕ್ಕೆ ಪಣ ತೊಟ್ಟು, ಟೊಂಕ ಕಟ್ಟಿ ನಿಂತಿರುವ ನಮ್ಮ ಸ್ವಯಂಸೇವಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರೇ ಇದರ ಮೂಲಾಧಾರವೆಂದರೆ ತಪ್ಪಾಗಲಾರದು.
ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವು ಕ್ಯಾಲಿಫೋರ್ನಿಯಾದ ನಿವಾಸಿಯಾದ ಶ್ರೀ ಶಿವು ಗೌಡರ್ ಅವರ ನೇತೃತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿ ರೂಪಿಸಲಾದ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಂಡಿದೆ. ಶ್ರೀಯುತರ ಕನ್ನಡ ಜ್ಞಾನ ಸಂಪತ್ತು ಹಾಗು ಮಾರ್ಗದರ್ಶನದಿಂದ US ಮತ್ತು ಇತರ ದೇಶಗಳಾದ್ಯಂತ ಅನೇಕ ಕನ್ನಡ ಗುಂಪುಗಳು ಈ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಬಳಸಿಕೊಂಡಿವೆ. ಕನ್ನಡ ಅಭಿವೃದ್ಧಿ ಪ್ರಾಧಿಕಾರ (ಕೆಡಿಎ) ಸಹ ಇದನ್ನು ಅನುಮೋದಿಸಿದೆ. ಹಾಗೆ ಈ ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಅಮೇರಿಕಾ ಹಾಗು ಇತರೆ ವಿದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಅಧಿಕೃತ ಕನ್ನಡ ಕಲಿಕೆಯ ವಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ಅಳವಡಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಒಪ್ಪಿಗೆ ನೀಡಿದೆ. ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮೂಲಕ ಪಠ್ಯ ಪುಸ್ತಕಗಳು ನಮ್ಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆ ತಲಪುತ್ತದೆ.
ಪಠ್ಯಕ್ರಮದಲ್ಲಿ ೮ ಹಂತಗಳಿವೆ, ಪ್ರತಿ ಹಂತವು ಕನ್ನಡ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕೆಲವು ಪ್ರಾವೀಣ್ಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಕೇಂದ್ರೀಕರಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಮತ್ತು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ಪ್ರಗತಿಗಳಿಗನುಗುಣವಾಗಿ ಅವರನ್ನು ಮುಂದಿನ ಹಂತಕ್ಕೆ ಕೊಂಡೊಯ್ಯುತ್ತದೆ. ಎಲ್ಲಾ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮೊದಲನೇ ಹಂತದಿಂದ ಪ್ರಾರಂಭಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ತರಗತಿಗಳು ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್‌ನಿಂದ ಮೇ ವರೆಗೆ, ಭಾನುವಾರದಂದು ಸಂಜೆ 4 ರಿಂದ 5:15 ರವರೆಗೆ ಆಸ್ಟಿನ್‌ನ ಚಿನ್ಮಯ ಮಿಷನ್ ಸೆಂಟರ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತವೆ.
Kannada Kali is an educational program run under the auspices of the Austin Kannada Sangha. Kannada Kali started in the year 2018. Notwithstanding the impact of Covid, it has grown leaps and bounds. As of today we have 90 students as part of this program. Kannada Kali is run by passionate volunteers whose main objective is to encourage all children to read, write, converse and understand Kannada language and script.
For Kannada Kali, we have adopted the syllabus formulated by Shri Shivu Gowder. He is a passionate individual whose expertise in developing syllabus and study material has been really beneficial. Testament to that is the fact that the same have been used by multiple Kannada groups across the US and other countries. Kannada Development Authority (KDA) has approved and agreed to adopt this syllabus as an official Kannada learning methodology for children in foreign countries like here in the US. Books and study materials will directly come from Karnataka.
There are 8 levels in the syllabus, starting from the basic level 1, each level focuses on a certain level of proficiency in Kannada language. Students progress to the next level based on the criteria set for each level. Classes are held from September to May, on Sundays from 4 PM - 5:15 PM in Chinmaya Mission Center, Austin.
